Covering the President for The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley

Philosophy

Joey Ruffini approaches cinematography as the intersection of art and science. With the current technologies changing as quickly as they are, it is no longer enough to have a good eye, and an understanding of light. The modern cinematographer must also understand color science, optical engineering, media workflow management, robotics, virtual reality, and be ready to learn whatever might come next.

Career

Ruffini has spent almost a decade shooting in the most adverse technical condition all over the world. Whether that means trying to get footage back to a client in the US for a quick turn-around edit on a runway in Afghanistan, or rigging lights to a priceless antique automobile, every project has it’s own unique challenges; but at the end of the day the goal is the same. Tell the story in the best possible way.
